Jacob Riis

Jacob Riis was a documentary photographer who worked mainly in New York City. He used flash in photography, and was one of the first to do so. Many of his photographs showed the reality of life in the city.

These two photographs focus on the children living in the city, and exposing how they really live and the hardships that they endured. His photographs are realistic and meant to evoke emotions in the viewer.

This photo was taken the supposedly most crime-filled portion of the city.
I think that he strives to show the truth in his photos.
